Eroded riverbank shaped by the Amata River

The Dolomite Cliff Trail is a scenic 3.5 km section of the Amata Trail, leading from Melturi Bridge to Kārļamuiža and walkable in both directions. This moderately challenging route follows the right bank of the Amata River, featuring natural forest paths with roots, small climbs, and narrower sections along cliffs, so sturdy walking shoes are recommended. The trail is clearly marked with orange signs on trees, and the hike typically takes around 2.5–3 hours depending on pace.

Along the way, hikers experience a rich and varied landscape with panoramic views over the Amata valley. Key highlights include Īļaku Rock, a striking dolomite outcrop up to 25 metres high, Vizuļu Rock with natural springs (and ice formations in winter), the impressive Dolomite Cliff itself, and Dambja Cliff, where layers of Devonian rock are clearly visible. The terrain constantly changes, combining forest, riverbank, and elevated viewpoints.

The trail remains mostly natural and unpaved, with occasional damp sections after rain, and offers several spots for short breaks by the river or scenic viewpoints. It is an ideal route for those looking for an active hike combined with geological interest and diverse nature, ending at Kārļamuiža where visitors can rest or continue exploring other trails.
